A research of growth number of colony after washing humidifier in ICU

Abstract

|
This research was an attempt for the correct use of humidifier at the Icu of surgery section through the bacterial culture of the humidifier. Which is the main source of respiratory infection at the Icu via the main source of infection. We investigate 7 humidifiers out of 15 humidifiers at the Icu of surgery section. This research 2 parts investigation. The first investigation started from June 25. 1997 to July 1. 1997 and the second Investigation performed everyday for 7 days from March 16. 1998 to March 22. 1998.
The method place of collecting the culture samples from using waters, bottom, and the opening of spring in the humidifiers. 2 to 3cc of water sample was collected with sterilized syringe, the sample from the bottom of the humidifiers was collected with sterilized cotton balls and sent them to clinical laboratory for culture. The culture was done hospital management standard and CDC guidelines. The humidifier was regularly cleaned twise a week.
The result showed that the Microorganisms started to glow from the samples collected third day and increased to glow until 4th day which was the day before cleansing.
The organisms glow is maximumited on the day before cleansing the humidifiers. We decided to clean the humidifier three times a week mother then twise a week on the result of 1st and 2nd sample surveys and to use Yoohan Lax cleanses and chlorinated tap waters. We decide this method would be the best way to reduce hospital infection.
